District 9

Ok, it may be stretch to find some major inspiration in the movie District 9 , but who the hell cares, it’s Monday morning, we could all use a bit of escapism before heading in to the week. This movie is what summer flicks are all about, and in the tradition of Independence Day and Transformer , District 9 has all the action and adventure you could want in a summer blockbuster. While there are larger themes at play here, we can find inspiring moments involving teamwork and group effort in this film, and while the sense of reality may be off , the sentiment is something we can all take in to our week.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, here it is. Happy Movie Monday everyone!

TimeLoveAnyone who knows me knows that I am not your typical gal who likes to see chick flicks… I’m more of the Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen movie type, and yes my husband has struck gold. However, this weekend the Time Travelers Wife opens staring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams (I guess I haven’t totally abandoned my roots, she did appear in one of my all time favorites, The Wedding Crashers), and I cannot wait to see it. This story is one that transcends time and probably reality, but is an inspiring love story that shows that love can survive under the most unconventional circumstances. I mean chances are I won’t hit the theatres this weekend, having a 6 month old basically means I’m waiting for the DVD, but I am eager to hear what you all think of it. So drag your husband, wife, best friend and catch a screening, and don’t forget to check back Monday and let me know all the juicy details. If you haven’t seen the trailer here it is …. LOVE the song that accompanies it, don’t you?

The women who launched a million soufflés… Julie & Julia

here are many things in life that will capture your eye, but very few will capture your heart. These are the ones to pursue. These are the ones worth keeping.

here are many things in life that will capture your eye, but very few will capture your heart. These are the ones to pursue. These are the ones worth keeping.

This weekend Julie and Julia hit the theaters. Based on the life of Julia Child, it chronicles the lives of two women who found their passion through cooking. I want to highlight Julia, a woman who inspired every day women (and men) to venture beyond their comfort zone in the kitchen to create culinary masterpieces. She did it with humor and flair and made you think that you really COULD whip up the sumptuous dishes she brought to the table at the end of each meal. Some of the greatest chefs in the world credit her with starting them out in cooking and she was Grande Dame of food TV long before the Rachael Rays and Boy Flays hit the screen. To me cooking is all about love, you cook the foods you love for the people you love, and that is what Julia did, she inspired millions of love cooking. This week, let’s all get some inspiration from Ms. Child and gather our friends and family around the table for a home cooked meal, and if you haven’t had a chance to see the film, we’ve hooked you up with the trailer. Bon Appetite!

The Ugly Truth…

Long before Gerard Butler was the king of chick flicks, he made all the men swoon when he portrayed King Leonidas in the epic movie 300. The movie which has whimsical cinematography and theatrical characters and scenes, in fact teaches valuable real life lessons. No matter what your position in life, and no matter what obstacles are in your way, true courage and character are what matter. You may not always win, but the way you handle yourself and the effort you put in to the task at hand is what truly makes the man (or woman)

Check out this scene from 300, and get a little motivation this Monday to reach your goals.

Gotta Keep It Rowling…

With the new Harry Potter film (Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince) out in theaters I thought this was a perfect time to highlight JK Rowling a person who by any standard has a truly inspirational story. Before penning the now cult phenomenon series of Potter books, Rowling was a single mother living on welfare and had her books rejected time after time. But a resilient and determined Rowling managed to do what most of us dare not try, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a published author and as we all know reached astronomical levels of fame and fortune. So this afternoon think to yourself, what lifelong passion have you not pursued? What dream have you not tried to become reality? JK Rowling’s story should inspire each of us to try to attain some of those goals, go after those dreams and never give up

We Promise This Isn’t An Al Pacino Fan Site…

While this is only our second installment of Inspirational Movie Monday, I can’t help but point toCharacterPoster a second favorite scene of mine from another Al Pacino movie “Scent of a Woman.” This scene which is the climax of this touching film shows what it means to be committed to the ones you care about and inspires us to stick and stand by what and we know is right. On this Monday let’s ask ourselves, do we protect the ones we most care about, do we look out for our friends, family and coworkers, do we show commitment, leadership and allegiance to people the best way we can?

In case you didn’t hit the theatres this weekend…

Weekend too short? Didn’t get a chance to hit the big screen for a little bit of escapism? How about starting off the workday this Monday (and every Monday from now on), with an inspirational scene from one of my favorite movies. This week’s movie, Any Given Sunday.

This scene always brings a tear to my eye, and makes me long to be back as part of a sports team, with the fun and camaraderie that only comes from working together to reach a goal. Check out Coach D’s speech and let’s all try and apply that sentiment of teamwork to our workweek. Hey, it may not be scoring the last goal at the buzzer, but it may help making that deadline a bit easier and meaningful.

Have a coach, player, teammate, or sports fan you want to inspire? Check out these great posters and plaques.
