Great news for all Twitter and Facebook users. You can now post your status updates as tweets, making life a lot easier. I am really impressed with Facebook; instead of launching a campaign against Twitter is recognizing its reach and helping its users enjoy their social networking experiences even more. Which gets me thinking, instead of trying to beat our competitors, can we try and work together? I think I’ll ponder that on Twitter VIA Facebook J
While he might not have danced his way to victory on Dancing with The Stars, Mark Cuban has had many successful ventures in his career and we can learn a lot from a recent column he wrote for Wall Street Pit. How many of us have been asked to write a pitch, and have made similar mistakes with our tone and authenticity in a pitch. While we should always believe in our company, brand and product, we always need to remember who we are sending the pitch or proposal too and make sure we tailor it to be effective. So instead of hyping up your product is used car salesmen type way, lets all take a few minutes next time we sit down to write and make sure we sending out a quality piece of work.
Ok, it may be stretch to find some major inspiration in the movie District 9 , but who the hell cares, it’s Monday morning, we could all use a bit of escapism before heading in to the week. This movie is what summer flicks are all about, and in the tradition of Independence Day and Transformer , District 9 has all the action and adventure you could want in a summer blockbuster. While there are larger themes at play here, we can find inspiring moments involving teamwork and group effort in this film, and while the sense of reality may be off , the sentiment is something we can all take in to our week.
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, here it is. Happy Movie Monday everyone!
We are so excited that we were able to do some good this week. Sometimes we all get too busy to take step back and think how we can help someone, and with our move to new offices and all the excitement around our new products and staff, we haven’t had much time to give back to those around us. But we were thrilled this week to be able to give away 10,000 dollars worth of wood and supplied to Faith Farm Ministries our neighbors in Boynton Beach, Fl. Faith Farm Ministries is a free, 9 month, faith-based, addiction recovery program with residential services for more than 350 men and women who have lost control of their lives due to alcohol and/or illegal and pharmaceutical drug addictions. We know the important work they do can’t happen without help from donations , so we hope that our contribution will help them continue in the good work they already do. This really inspired us to try and do more whenever we can..and we will continue to look for more ways to do that. Now, we are not out to toot our own horns or be preachy, it’s just not our style… but we do hope our little act of kindness will inspire you to do something this weekend to help someone else. Whether it’s a phone call to a sick friend, or watching the neighbors kid, or even making a donation to a charity of your choice, let’s all make it a goal to do something nice for someone else.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not your typical gal who likes to see chick flicks… I’m more of the Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen movie type, and yes my husband has struck gold. However, this weekend the Time Travelers Wife opens staring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams (I guess I haven’t totally abandoned my roots, she did appear in one of my all time favorites, The Wedding Crashers), and I cannot wait to see it. This story is one that transcends time and probably reality, but is an inspiring love story that shows that love can survive under the most unconventional circumstances. I mean chances are I won’t hit the theatres this weekend, having a 6 month old basically means I’m waiting for the DVD, but I am eager to hear what you all think of it. So drag your husband, wife, best friend and catch a screening, and don’t forget to check back Monday and let me know all the juicy details. If you haven’t seen the trailer here it is …. LOVE the song that accompanies it, don’t you?
If this doesn’t inspire you to get off your you know what, I don’t know what will. Evelyn Stevens was a typical wall street exec, before getting on a bike one day and discovering she had an incredible hidden talent. This week she is competing in the Tour De France with under a year of formal training under her belt, a feat that is as extraordinary as it is unusual. Read her story, as profiled in the Wall Street Journal and get inspired to think outside your comfort zone and try something, you may not find your way to being an elite athlete, but you may find your hidden talent, and more importantly have some fun!
This weekend Julie and Julia hit the theaters. Based on the life of Julia Child, it chronicles the lives of two women who found their passion through cooking. I want to highlight Julia, a woman who inspired every day women (and men) to venture beyond their comfort zone in the kitchen to create culinary masterpieces. She did it with humor and flair and made you think that you really COULD whip up the sumptuous dishes she brought to the table at the end of each meal. Some of the greatest chefs in the world credit her with starting them out in cooking and she was Grande Dame of food TV long before the Rachael Rays and Boy Flays hit the screen. To me cooking is all about love, you cook the foods you love for the people you love, and that is what Julia did, she inspired millions of love cooking. This week, let’s all get some inspiration from Ms. Child and gather our friends and family around the table for a home cooked meal, and if you haven’t had a chance to see the film, we’ve hooked you up with the trailer. Bon Appetite!
Via twitter I was notified of the passing of the great John Huges. He has done a number of notable films, most quotable Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, spawned The Brat Pack, and penned many childhood classics such as Home Alone and Beethoven. But to glorify his successes would not do this cinematic genius justice; I’d much rather take this time to revisit some of his “lesser” works that I hold dear to my heart.
Baby’s Day Out – The brain child of John Huges, about a baby outwitting his kidnappers in the big city… it’s Home Alone meets Baby Geniuses.
Flubber – Based off a classic film starring Dick Van Dyke, John Huges created real characters out of a flubbery substance and managed to write comedic material that Robin Williams couldn’t out act.
Home Alone 3 – A sequel to the first two successful family outings, this film was made sans director Christopher Columbus and star Macaulay Culkin. Underneath the poor acting and over direction, all the charm and wit from the originals is still twinkling.
Later in his career, he started working under the pseudonym Edmond Dantès where he produced many sequels to his earlier successes along with original ideas such as Maid in Manhattan and Drillbit Taylor
Here we recognize a man who leaves a legacy of films that touched and inspired millions of lives.
Today we have witnessed one of those moments where you always remember where you were when you heard the news. One of those memorable moments that give you a lump in your throat and maybe even make you shed a tear. Witnessing Laura Ling and Eun Lee step off that plane and in to the arms of their emotional and waiting families after four and a half harrowing months of hard labor truly personifies inspiration. The mothers, wives and journalists persevered in unimaginable circumstances and survived what can only be described as a nightmare. Their strength and courage and their determination to survive and thrive truly make them heroes.
Long before Gerard Butler was the king of chick flicks, he made all the men swoon when he portrayed King Leonidas in the epic movie 300. The movie which has whimsical cinematography and theatrical characters and scenes, in fact teaches valuable real life lessons. No matter what your position in life, and no matter what obstacles are in your way, true courage and character are what matter. You may not always win, but the way you handle yourself and the effort you put in to the task at hand is what truly makes the man (or woman)
Check out this scene from 300, and get a little motivation this Monday to reach your goals.
